  • The announcement

There is a very good chance that you will know before anybody else that you are having a baby. Aside from the Doctor, perhaps! So how will you announce it?

First up, how to announce it your partner? A very popular way is with a tiny pair of baby shoes or boots in a box. Your partner opens the box and finds them inside! Alternatively, use a different cute baby item. How about a cuddly toy, or a tiny hat or pair of socks?

How will you let your friends and family know? Most people like to wait until 12 week scan before the do so. But once this has passed, how you you announce it. One way it to organize a meal or party with your closest friends but not tell them why. Or if you won’t be able to see them, how about sending a balloon in the post. Once they blow it up, they’ll see your announcement printed on the side. How cute?

  • The nursery

Once the initial shock, joy and exhilaration starts to die down, you’ll suddenly realise- where will the baby sleep! While some midwives now recommend keeping your baby in your room with you for the first six months, you may chose to put them in the nursery sooner. Or even if you do keep your baby with you for a while, it will be useful to have a dedicated space for their things.

Start of with the necessary furniture; there will be things the baby needs. There are a wonderful collection of luxury cots and cot beds out there ripe for the picking. Also consider storage space. You’ll need it for their toys, blankets, diapers and of course, clothes! Once you’ve figured out what will be going in the room and how much space it will take up, you can think about decor. If you don’t know the gender of the baby, think neutral for now. You can added coloured accents once they are born!

  • The baby shower

Now it’s time to let your hair down one last time before all of those sleepless nights. You can organize your baby shower yourself, if there are specific things you want. Alternatively, ask a close friend or family member to take charge. This takes some of the pressure off you at what is already quite a stressful time! Eat some nice food, play some games and enjoy some time relaxing with your loved ones; you deserve it!
