Even though winter may be a wonderful time for drinking hot cocoa, eating gingerbread cookies, and watching movies with friends and family, our skin suffers. Cold air, wind, and lack of sun make our skin flakey and cracked, not to mention dry and itchy. With warm spring just around the corner, you will want your skin to be smooth and soft again, and we have a few simple tricks which will help your skin become just that.

Don’t exfoliate as often

You should use a gentle cleanser every day before you go to bed; it helps your skin breathe and keeps it soft. Still, you shouldn’t forget to exfoliate approximately once a week, especially as spring approaches. During winter, our skin is dry and flakey, and by exfoliating we remove those flakes and dead skin cells, allowing the ‘young’ skin to breathe. With the weather becoming warmer by the day, our skin is less dry, thus we don’t have to exfoliate as often as we did during the coldest winter months. Instead of exfoliating once a week, you can start doing so every ten days. IDC’s Trilogy mask contains glycolic acid and it’ll give you an even skin tone and texture.

Treat your lips

It’s not just your skin that’s affected by the harsh, cold winter; your lips are equally exposed and get damaged even worse because the skin on your lips is very thin and soft. If your lips are often dry and chapped, you can make them smooth again if you treat them right. Exfoliate the dry skin by gently rubbing them with a paste made of granulated sugar and some honey. After that, use a thin layer of coconut oil or an intensive-care lip balm. Always carry a lip balm in your purse and moisturize throughout the day so you keep your lips smooth.

Try a brightening mask

You can add a simple homemade brightening mask to your nighttime skincare routine, because it will stimulate circulation and give your face that natural, warm, rosy glow. The simplest way to naturally brighten your skin is to use vitamin C from fruits such as lemons and oranges. Make a simple mask out of natural orange juice and baking soda: in a cup or a bowl put a tablespoon of orange juice and a tablespoon of baking soda, and mix them until you get a smooth paste (feel free to add more baking soda if you want it to be thicker). Apply the mask to your face, leave it on for twenty minutes, and rinse with warm water. You can even use it as an exfoliating mask and gently massage it into your skin before rinsing.

Choose a lighter moisturizer

We’ve mentioned that your skin will be less dry when spring comes, but that still doesn’t mean you should abandon moisturizers. Moisturizing daily is incredibly important for your skin, because it needs the protective layer a good moisturizer provides. Even as we move past winter, our skin is exposed to the elements, and a good moisturizer will keep it hydrated, glowing and healthy. In winter, you need more protection, but during the warmer months of spring and summer you should choose a lighter moisturizer. The Ultra B2 hydrating serum from UltraCeuticals is oil-free and very light, so it’s suitable for all skin types.

It’s important to understand that the skin-care regimen you have been using during winter will not be as good for your skin in spring, just as your summer skincare routine should be different than the spring one. Always try to change things around, experiment, and try to find new routines and products which will keep your skin smooth and healthy and make you look your best.
